The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has said that it is taking steps to ensure the safety of its students who use the University of Ghana Graduate Business School street towards their campus.
The assurance by the UPSA SRC comes following growing concerns from students.
According to these students, the darkness on that particular stretch of road is poses a serious security threat to them.
Addressing the issue, Public Relations Officer of the UPSA SRC, Nii Aryee Ayi Rahman, hinted on plans by the SRC to fix street lights along the University of Ghana Graduate Business School street towards the UPSA campus.
He said that they had taken lessons from an attack suffered by a student of the University of Ghana in May this year and were keen on resolving the issue before something untoward happens.
The student, Daniel Osei, was attacked by persons suspected to be armed along the road leading from Pentagon to the Evandy hostel which is situated on the campus of the University of Ghana.
The UPSA SRC PRO further disclosed plans to set up security posts and clear the bushes in the area to ward off thieves and armed robbers.
“Lights will be built along the roadside, from the schools hostel to the junction, bushes around those areas will be cleared for a safer path for students and other pedestrians,” Nii Aryee Ayi Rahman told UniversNews
