The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has postponed the Physics and Business Management papers in this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The two papers which were supposed to have been written by candidates on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 8:00 am were postponed following the purported claim of leakage on social media.
WAEC in a press statement on Wednesday stated that “the examination commenced smoothly across the country” and covid-19 protocols are being observed at the centers”.
However, the council admitted that this year’s examination has been characterized by some “irregularities”.
“A number of irregularities have been recorded at some centers. These include; Inside-examination-Hall malpractice as a result of poor supervision and invigilation. Institutionalized examination malpractice I.e execution of pre-arranged plan to assist candidates to cheat by solving questions and distributing solutions to the candidates.”
As a result of these irregularities, the council decided to postpone the Physics 2&1 and Business Management papers indicating that a new date will be communicated to the students later.
“The office has re-scheduled Physics 2 &1 and business management 2&1 papers originally scheduled for today Wednesday, September 15, 2021. A new date for the re-scheduled papers will be communicated in due course.”
Following that, Education Thinktank Africa Education Watch urged WAEC to be resolute in bringing an end to all the irregularities in order to restore its credibility.
“Today physics and business mgt re-scheduled indefinitely by WAEC. The leak is just too much. Won’t be surprised if others are canceled. WAEC must be decisive on all these leaks. We must restore credibility in WASSCE” Africa Education Watch said in a tweet.
