It appears the University of Ghana has been hit by a shortage of lecturers as it has scrapped quite a number of its courses for the 2019/2020 academic year.
Checks by UniversNews in some departments of the University indicates that some courses, which were being studied in the last academic year, are longer existent.
Whiles students have expressed readiness to undertake these courses, they are unavailable for registration.
At the Political Science Department, for instance, about three courses which were offered in previous academic years, have been cancelled in seemingly wake of lecturer shortage, leaving interested students stranded.
Some of the courses which have been scraped at the Political Science department include Governance and Leadership, Human Resource and Development and National Politics.
Dr. Bossman Asare who was the lecturer for National Politics has been appointed by President Akufo-Addo as the Deputy Electoral Commissioner of Ghana.
Also, Dr. Agrey Darko has also left his post as a level 300/400 lecturer and is now serving as Director at the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
Sources from the Statistics/IT Department has it that four optional courses which existed before have been trimmed to only two courses.
Database system, Networking, Word Development and Information Security were all optional courses which were previously available to IT students.
However IT students are now limited to only two options this academic year which include Networking and Information security.
The Political Science and Statistics/IT departments are not the only departments which appear to be lacking lecturers as the Psychology Department is also believed to be facing a similar challenge.
A level 400 course, Military Psychology is said not to be available for students who want to be Military Psychologist and treat military personnel and their families by performing psychiatric evaluations; assessing and treating mental and emotional disorders; and offering counseling services.
