General Secretary Candidate in the University of Ghana Students Representative Council election, Jonelle Mate-Kojo has announced that she has not resigned from running for the secretary position of the SRC.
This follows rumors indicating that the candidate had stepped down from the election which is scheduled to come off tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12, 2021.
In a communique, Jonelle Mate-Kodjo stated that the unscrupulous persons impersonating her to spread false information about her resignation and request money from other aspirants in exchange for her support are not from her or her camp.
“I have received with the greatest shock, numerous phone calls and text messages from friends and sympathizers who have received calls as well as messages from unscrupulous persons impersonating my good self.”
“These persons are spreading falsehoods that I have resigned from the upcoming UG SRC election scheduled for Wednesday,20th October 2021 and further engaging in negotiations with other aspirants, requesting money in exchange for my support. I wish to state categorically that I have not resigned from the contest, neither have I assigned any person to represent me in any negotiations”
Jonelle further added that this comes as a ploy to sabotage her campaign and called for those involved to desist from it.
She advised students to treat calls of such manner as that of contempt. She entreated her supporters to remain calm and focused as these attempts seek to take the attention off the main target which is the elections.
“I, therefore, entreat students who receive such calls to treat them with the contempt they deserve. This is simply a ploy to sabotage my campaign and persons who are engaging themselves in this shameful act of impersonation must kindly desist. I further, entreat my supporters and well-wishers to stay calm and remain focused as such propaganda and attempts to take our attention off the main goal during this final lap is expected”
