Isaac Agyemang and Louis Banahene have closed merger talks which settled on the former as Presidential aspirant and the latter as a running mate.
This was confirmed to #UniversNews on Saturday night after the discussions on the future of the two candidates were finalized.
The camps of the two are reported to have been at the negotiating table for a while now with each of them pushing to be the main candidate.
But with less than 24 hours to the closure of nominations for the 2019 SRC Elections, Team IA and Team BANAHENE join forces to face off their contenders in the race.
‘We have decided to merge because we believe in each other’s ideas. Banahene brings a great deal of expertise to the table while Isaac presents a compelling force for action. We know that this pair is the pair to beat’, a campaign aide to Isaac Agyemang confirmed to #UniversNews.
Isaac Agyemang hopes to share the votes from the Political Science department with his former school mate in Benkum SHS, Kwaku Asante while he relies on home support from the Mensah Sarbah hall where he once served as a JCR Organizing Secretary.
The prospects of the team may be leavened with Louis Banahene’s perceived support from his fellow medical students on the Korle-Bu campus coupled with a little push from his Mfantsipim old boys even across the various campuses. Seen by many as a protege of the incumbent SRC President, Banahene fits into what appears to be a perfect succession agenda by Sylvester Owusu Amoako.
This merger makes the second after Julius Kwame Anthony and Kwaku Asante Bismarck agreed to team up ahead of the election and leaves out Daniel Osei Wereko(Be-Great), Joseph Michael (J-Mike), Emmanuel Boadi, Daniel Appiah (Alo Danny), Lansah Lawrence, Isaac Ananpansah and a few others who have already indicated their intentions to run.
The Julius-Kwaku merger came as a shock because both aspirants were earlier reported to have signaled strongly their position of not sacrificing the presidential slot.
More reports suggest that Both Team IA and Team Banahene were in talks with at least one of the camps in the Julius-Kwaku merger.
The other portfolios up for election are those of the Treasurer and the General Secretary. The deadline for submission of nomination forms is Sunday [March 24] at exactly 6:00 pm after which aspirants who fail to submit their forms would have been deemed to have forfeited their interest in running for office.
