University of Ghana Accra City campus SRC President-elect for the 2021/2022 academic year, Silas Ampomah has urged the University of Ghana Electoral Commission to keep electoral materials for SRC elections at the city campus a night to the day of the election.
His comments come after a 4-hour delay in the commencement of voting at the City campus due to the late arrival of election materials and controversy over verification officials.
“It’s so bad that we are starting this late, city campus students normally have 7:50am to 9:50am class, and now we are starting around 12 O’clock which means that those who came around for the first class all missed the opportunity to cast their vote and it’s so bad that this is happening.” He told Univers News.
Silas Ampomah added that even though, there might be some trust issues relating to his suggestion, the security personnel at the Accra City Campus are capable of ensuring the safety of the electoral materials.
“We have security over here, we can print the ballot papers and bring them the night before the election, that will be the best thing to do . There are some trust issues but I believe in our security personnel over here that they can guide the materials till the next day so we can starting voting on time.”
