Electoral Commissioner of University of Ghana’s Students Representative Council (UG-SRC), Roland Tettey has said his office is yet to receive funds from the SRC to run the forthcoming SRC elections.
The General Assembly, at a sitting sometime last week, allocated GHC 35,000 to the EC to conduct this year’s SRC elections scheduled for April 10.
The money was to be drawn from the coffers of the SRC.
However, with few days for the closing of nominations by aspirants, the EC has claimed that the office is yet to get funding.
Speaking with #UniversNews, Roland Tettey mentioned that the SRC Treasurer, Smith Dumenyo had failed to ensure that the budget was approved.
“We’ve spoken with the treasurer, given him the budget and he was supposed to submit the budget for approval but as at today, from all indications it means they have not approved the budget and we don’t know what the reason is.
He added that they would have a meeting with the Acting Dean of Students Affairs, later today to discuss the way forward.
We are planning to meet the dean to discuss the budget with him because we have not been given a green light and we cannot run the process without the money”
