Presidential candidate in this year’s University of Ghana Students Representative Council election, Isaac Agyemang has taken the lead as votes are being collated at the Union Building.
According to provisional results received by UniversNews, Isaac Agyemang and Louis Banahene have won in some 7 polling stations.
In our provisional results, Isaac Agyemang has garnered about 3,700 votes ahead of Anthony Julius’ about 3,300 votes.
The only polling station left out of this election is the Korle-Bu campus polling station.
The electoral process at the Korle-Bu campus polling station was marred with what can be described as acts of violence from persons believed to be affiliated to Isaac Agyemang and Anthony Julius.
UniversNews understands that the election for Korle-Bu campus polling station will be held at a later date.
However, considering the fact that the Korle-Bu campus is Isaac Agyemang and Louis Banahene’s strong hold because the latter is a Medical student, one would expect that they win in that particular polling station too.
Denise Kagal Abaniaba and Philomina Sarbah Andam, who are vying for the General Secretary and Treasurer offices respectively are also leading in the polls..
Voter turnout in this election, in comparison to the 2018/2019 SRC election, is said to be unimpressive.
Although concerns have been raised about the seemingly rush of the Electoral Commission in the organization of this year’s election, electoral fraud allegations are yet to be made by parties involved.
This year’s SRC election, which seeks to elect a successor for the Sylvester Amoako-led administration, has seven persons, excluding running mates, contest for the available three offices
Anthony Kwame Julius and Isaac Agyemang are the two persons vying for the Presidential seat.
For the office of the General Secretary, Mercy Winifred Duncan and Denise Kagal Abaniaba are the only contestants.
Delvin Kwame Addae, Philomena Sarbah Andam and Perry Agyarko are the candidates for the Treasurer portfolio.
