Acting Dean of Students Affairs at the University of Ghana, Prof. Godfred A. Bokpin has threatened to prevent University of Ghana SRC Presidential aspirants, Anthony Julius and Banahene Louis Owusu from contesting in the forth coming SRC elections if the two do not pay a fine imposed on them by Friday, March 15.
Anthony Julius and Banahene Louis Owusu have been slapped with a GHS 1,000 fine following their refusal to attend a meeting with the Dean over their indiscriminate posting of campaign posters on the university campus.
In a letter signed by the acting Dean and copied Radio Univers, Anthony Julius and Louis Banahene’s actions have been deemed illegal and breaches Basic Laws of the university.
The letter further added that despite an invitation to discuss matters, the two refused to attend and several verbal warnings from the Dean have proven futile.
“Your act of advertising yourselves as SRC aspirants by posting posters all over the University campus is illegal and breaches Section 42 (Clause I) of the Basic Laws. Due to this, the Dean of Students Affairs invited you and others for a meeting on the 8th March, 2019, which you refused to attend. Several verbal warnings to you have also not yielded any result”
The two, following their actions, are to pay the GHS 1,000 fine each by Friday, 15th March, 2019 to prevent further sanctions from the Dean.
Furthermore, the two have been instructed to remove all their posters from unapproved places by March 15 otherwise risk having their candidature in the SRC elections revoked by the Dean.
“This letter comes to impose on you a fine of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000.00) payable into Account No: AW01384070 at the Cash Office, University of Ghana. Payment of the fine should be made by Friday, 15th March, 2019, and submit receipt to my office, to avert further sanctions.
You are also to remove all the notices from the unapproved places immediately. Failure to do so by 15th March, 2019 will lead to revocation of your candidature.”
