The Vice-President of the Students with Special Needs of the University of Ghana, Ebenezer Gatiba has lauded the university management for putting in place measure to make life comfortable for students with disabilities.
According to him, several interventions have been made by the university authorities to aid them to achieve their academic goals.
Speaking on our morning show Campus Exclusive, Mr. Gatiba stressed that persons with disabilities are also part of the human race and therefore, must be treated with respect.
He also called on the student populace not to stigmatize persons with disabilities as such behaviors reduces their self-esteem.
Mr. Gatiba further appealed to the government to collaborate with other organizations to support persons with disabilities
These comments were borne out of the commencement of the celebration of the day for Persons with Disabilities.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.
This theme focuses on the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable and sustainable development envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
