The First Deputy Electoral Commissioner of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council, Bright Siaw, has urged all stakeholders to fully collaborate with the electoral commission to ensure a smooth unfolding of the SRC electioneering process.
This was disclosed in a communique highlighting the progress made so far in planning the SRC elections.
Speaking to UniversNews, Bright Siaw called on the Executive Committee of the SRC and all relevant stakeholders to offer timely cooperation to speed up the process.
“As a Commission, we will be working with the media at large. Though we are an independent body, we will be having consultation from General Assembly now EXECOM. So these are the bodies we are working with. So we are encouraging them to collaborate with us and we need their cooperation because we are in critical moments and things have to be fast-tracked,” Bright Siaw stated.
Bright Siaw further disclosed that plans are far advanced to ensure that elections are held.
“We all know that amid this modular, the Commission is not expected to conduct the elections in revision week as well as exam week. The interval is before 30th July. So from 20th July up to 26th July or 30th July, we should be able to finalize the electioneering process. So if delays come to bear, it will affect the electioneering process. So we are encouraging them to collaborate with us, to cooperate with us so that we can execute our plans well,” Bright Siaw added.
He disclosed that the Electoral Calendar had been sent to the Dean of Students for approval.
He is hopeful that approval will be received by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is expected to meet with the Executive Committee for the approval of the Constitutional Instrument to guide the election.
