News reaching UniversNews indicate that a level 100 University of Ghana student has been arrested and detained at the Legon Police station after Akuafo Hall authorities reported him for ‘perching’.
The student who is a non-resident was found on the premises of Akuafo Hall sleeping in one of the rooms even though information available to Univers News indicate that he did not have permission to do so.
It is not clear under which charge the Legon Police Station is holding the student but this reporter understand it may be for ‘trespassing’. It is also not clear if the student has been granted access to Legal Aid or representation or allowed to phone his parents or guardian.
The Police declined a comment and authorities of Akuafo Hall were also not reachable for comment.
The student also alleges that a porter demanded GHC50.00 from him and that his inability to pay led to the report.
In order to commit criminal trespass, one must either go onto a property knowing that he or she does not have permission to be there or remain on property after learning that they do not have the right to be there.
