Management of the University of Ghana has heeded calls from students requesting that it reviews the decision to hold the end-of-semester exams for this academic year on-site and in-person.

A letter from the office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ASA), to the Acting Students Representative Council President, Kwame Amo Ntow Fianko, mentioned that approval has been granted for Units to vary the mode of final examinations.

Units have been asked to ensure the quality and credibility of the exams regardless of the mode they choose.

They have also been asked to inform students of their chosen mode of examinations at least a week before the start of general examinations.

The University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UGSRC) earlier petitioned the Management of the University to revert its decision on holding on-site examinations to online.

A statement signed by the Students Representative Council (SRC) President Nana Kwame Amo Ntow on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, pointed out that this was because of the recent wave of the coronavirus disease in the country.

“The leadership of the SRC further employs your office to review the decision to conduct the first semester of the first track of students (100 and 400) on-site. This is because of the current wave of the pandemic in Ghana and across the globe” part of the statement reads.

The statement further proposed for this semester’s examinations to be written online as it was done last semester to safeguard the health of students.

It further urged management to put in place measures to ensure credibility and transparency in the mode of assessment, should exams be taken online.

Doing online exam, lot of cheating. At the assessment lecture homework/quiz, students copy each others work.
Management should make sure students follow covid-19 instructions.
Using online, alot of good students might not do well while the copy copy ones will do well
