The University of Ghana has held an inauguration ceremony to induct Hon. Justice Dr. Seth Twum as the new President for the school’s Appeals Board.
The ceremony became necessary following the demise of the Board’s former president Dr. Justice Samuel Glenn Baddoo.
The newly Inducted President, Hon. Justice Dr. Seth Twum, a retired court judge and other 4 members Mr. Justine Agbeli Amenuvor, Mrs. Yaa Onyameye Gyakobo, Rev Dr. Dora Bortey, and Dr. Joseph Jojo Baidu-Forson were sworn into office by the Chairman of Council, Prof. Yaw Twumasi.
Speaking at the inauguration, Justice Dr. Seth Twum encouraged his members to be determined since the journey of the work is not going to be easy.
‘’ I deem it a great honor to encourage all of us to do our best. It sounds very easy but it isn’t. My people are determined to get a hearing from this Appeal Board but I’m determined to work towards the law to get what they want’’
He continued to elaborate on the effects and the necessity of their determination disposition saying that it would maintain the dignity of the office.
‘It’s not as simple as that and I am sure you all will work very hard to contain the sort of agitation that we have and so, that we would be able to maintain the dignity, and absolutely the sense of fairness which we all are supposed to have…’’
The ceremony was held on Monday, February 25, 2019.
The University of Ghana Appeals Board was set up in accordance with Section 32 of the University of Ghana Act, 2010 (Act 806) to hear and determine appeals from members of the University regarding matters such as acts or omissions in contravention of the University of Ghana Act and Statutes enacted by Council, breach of employment contracts by the University and also any other matter or dispute referred to the Appeals Board by the Council.
