Deputy General Assembly Speaker of University of Ghana’s Students’ Representative Council, John Populampo, is pleading with members of the Assembly to back down on attempts to remove the Speaker from post.
John Populampo says that the Speaker, Emmanuel Ampem Adjei, is not only his boss, but a close friend, and thus, his removal from office, is one that he does not desire.
Emmanuel Ampem Adjei has come under harsh criticisms, especially from some Members of the General Assembly, for some actions he took during a virtual meeting on Wednesday.
One of such members is the president of the Distance Education Student Representative Council, Daniel Adjumani, who has vowed to ensure the removal of the Speaker and the SRC legal advisor from office.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive, the Deputy General Assembly Speaker asked his colleagues to be patient for the Speaker to clarify matters before proceeding to take actions.
“The honorable members actually wanted to remove the speaker out-rightly but I pleaded with them to hold on and allow my boss to come and answer questions or maybe, if possible, apologize for reacting towards the House. So for me, my opinion about the removal of the speaker, I wouldn’t want that because first of all he is my friend. He is my partner, he is my boss so I wouldn’t want him to be removed personally but I would like that he takes charge of what he has done and amend it”
The General Assembly Speaker, during a Wednesday virtual sitting on the election of new Representatives proposed the use of google link for the voting procedure.
Members of the House were not in agreement with the decision and that led to a heated debate.
The Speaker, in the midst of the debate, left the page without any notification and this action, for some members of the House, is disrespectful.
