Information reaching UniversNews indicates that some final year students at the School of Continuing and Distance Education of the University of Ghana are disgruntled following management’s last-minute information over debt owed since their first year.
According to sources, students who fail to settle their debts would be barred from partaking in their end of semester exam scheduled to commence on January 4, 2019.
According to one of the students who spoke to UniversNews, in their first year, a tablet was sold to them by school authorities and were demanded to make outright payments.
However, some of them, received the tablets with the pledge to pay in installments.
“When we begun in the first year, we were asked to buy the tablets. We were told that we would be receiving our lecture slides on them. Some of us were able to pay the full amount and others too, although they received the tablet, were allowed to pay in installments” a student who pleaded anonymity told UniversNews
He further narrated that in a surprising move by school authorities, with a few weeks for the commencement of their end of semester exams, management has published a list of persons allegedly owing.
“With just a few weeks to exams, they have released a list of persons they think have not yet made payment for the tablet. There are some people one the list that I know they have paid.” he noted.
According to him, when they sought for corrections from management, they said they had lost their database of persons who had paid hence, students should provide their receipt as prove of payment.
“We went to the office and told them that some of us whose names are in the list have paid but they told us that they don’t have a database of those of paid but we should rather come with our receipts so they make the appropriate corrections”
“Now, the problem here is that most of us made the payments in our first year so it will become nearly impossible to produce these receipts.” he stressed.
