The careers and counseling center has organized it’s annual career week celebration under the theme; “Going Global, Maximizing Technology”.
As part of the scheduled activities for the event was the “Corporate Icon Competition”. In which students compete for internship opportunities in participating organizations.
This year saw six student contestants form the University of Ghana community, namely; Samuel Nii Akai Nettey, Lawrence Kpakpa Quamey, Enam Aku Tsinigo, Faridatu Danbaki, Samuel Asefua Obrenu and Godsway Dzogbenu.
Each contestant went through an interview with the presence of an audience, which made it an interesting experience for both the audience and participants.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Ocansey Oliver of Access Bank, Mr. Daniel Danquah of Total Petroleum Ghana Limited and Madam Nana YaaSefa-Dakwa also of Access Bank, who conducted the interview.
Winner of the 2018 Corporate Icon contest Mr. Emmanuel Bossu gave a speech encouraging students to take advantage of opportunities available while in school as it will help them gather a wealth of experience.
“I started volunteering with the Careers Centre from level 200. I also took internships very seriously. I advise we do same because employers ask for years of experience, which I have. I also learnt to network through the careers development class, which helps in personal development and adds value to you”.The university is not all about lectures, but also for universal learning, if we want to succeed after school. We should engage in extra-curricular activities”
Representatives fromthevarious companies present also urged students to dress appropriately for the corporate world, research about a company before attending an interview, be confident and also perform well in Academics.
This year’s winner of the Corporate Icon Contest Mr.Samuel Nii Akai Nettey, received souvenirs from Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, Access Bank, and the Careers and Counselling Centre.
