Former BlackStars midfielder Michael Essien has backed the Premier League club, Chelsea to defend their Champions League title this season.
The Blues won the European title for the second time last season in an unforgettable run to Porto.
Essien who played a key role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2012 believes the additions his former side have made, means they are prepared to defend the title for the first time in their history.
“I believe they [Chelsea] can do back-to-back wins for the club, It will be a very big achievement but they have a big squad, and with Lukaku, they are well prepared.” He said at the draw.
Essien, who made over 160 appearances for the Blues helped in conducting the draw together with his former teammate at Chelsea Branislav Ivanović.
"It's the same."
