National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has called for an end of student brutalities recorded on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Responding to a recent case where some students were whipped by the school’s security, Sammy Awuku, who appeared to be unhappy called for an immediate end to the practice.
On Friday September 7, some students of the university, said to be affiliates of the University and Unity Halls of the school were allegedly whipped by the school’s security for continuing their ‘traditional Friday charge’
According to reports from Kumasi, the students, even though their musical instruments were seized, marched to the parade grounds to continue their ‘tradition’.
Unhappy with the development, the school’s security was said to have then pounce on the students with canes; forcing them to disperse.
Unfortunately, some of the students were then brutalize with some sustaining some degree of injuries.
UniversNews also understands that a parent of one of the victims was arrested after she questioned the appropriateness of the beatings.
Attempts to reach the management of the school for their comments have proven futile.
Sammy Awuku further said that he was optimistic that the conversion of all traditional halls of the KNUST into mixed halls will be reversed.
“As a vandal, I owe a sacred duty to stand by my brothers from Katanga and Conti. Am convinced this decision will be reversed when the considerable level of agitation is brought to the attention of authorities so sanity can prevail.” he said in a Facebook post.
