Dermatologist, Dr. Edmund Delle has urged Ghanaians to seek medical advice before purchasing sunscreen products.
Whilst he says that the use of the product is ‘good for all,’ the founder of Rabito clinic wants users to get approval from their physicians before usage as the products come in varieties.
Speaking to UniversNews, Dr. Delle explained that some sunscreen products were only meant for people in certain age groups.
“As for Sunscreens, they are good because of the weather, but then, it is advisable depending on your age. We have sun protecting factors and they’re some for adults and some for the elderly,” he mentioned.
He added that:
“Some of these sunscreen products contain heavy metals, those who get the fake ones and those which are not approved dermatologically, when they are absorbed into the skin, they can give irritation to the skin. They can give you contact hepatitis if there are heavy metals and they can go and even affect your liver and your brain”
Sunscreens are products that absorbs some of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation and thus helps protect against sunburn.
