Incumbent member of parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has cast doubt on John Dumelo’s promise of providing free laptops to needy students in the constituency.
John Dumelo, who is contesting the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, in August this year promised to distribute 4,000 laptops to constituents.
At a debate organized by Accra-based 3FM, John Dumelo disclosed that about 500 persons have already benefited from the initiative.
However, Madam Lydia Alhassan, who is seeking reelection on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, has accused John Dumelo of making up figures.
According to her, beneficiaries are far less than what Dumelo quoted.
She has dared the actor cum politician to publicize the list of all beneficiaries.
“We are talking about laptops, he should give us the list of the 500 he has distributed. He has done less than 20.”
Meanwhile, Madam Alhassan says that her efforts in promoting education in the constituency are unmatched since her election less than two years ago.
She says that support has been given to some 500 students to continue their tertiary education.
She also says that she has renovated many halls of residence on the campus of the University of Ghana.
“Most of the halls at the University of Ghana have been renovated by me. Within this two year’s I have fixed fans in four of the halls, I have renovated the reading rooms, I have renovated schools in Abelemkpe, I have supported brilliant but needy students, over 500 of them, with scholarship to continue their tertiary education.
