The Ghana Education Service (GES) has debunked claims of President Akufo-Addo recalling some 14 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates that were dismissed for exhibiting violent behaviour during this year’s exams.
According to these reports, the President has directed GES to find alternative punishment for the students, rather than barring them from continuing with the exam and dismissing them from school.
The reports added that GES had begun steps to heed to the President’s call.
But the Education Service, in a social media post, branded such media stories as fake and called on the public to disregard them.
These media reports, which have been dismissed by GES, comes after some sections of the public described the sanctions from the Education Service as too harsh.
According to these persons, whilst the acts of indiscipline by the students are to be condemned, it does not warrant the level of punishment meted out to them.
