PPP sets June 27 to elect national officers via electronic voting

The Progressive People’s Party has set June 27, 2020 to elect its national officers.

All members of the party aspiring to hold national office positions are to file their nomination forms not later than June 19, 2020.

A flag bearer to lead the party into the 2020 general election will also be elected before the end of July, 2020 to enable the party to move into full electioneering to capture power.

The Director of Operations of the PPP, Nana Owusu Ofori, told the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday that the decision was taken at a National Committee meeting via zoom.

Electronic voting

He said the party had also decided to adopt an electronic form of voting to elect the national officers.

Modalities for the electronic voting, he said, would be rolled out and explained to all candidates through a virtual meeting before the date of the elections.

Mr Ofori said elections for regional positions would also be held by the close of this weekend.

According to him, elections for constituency office bearers had been completed, paving the way for the regional and national elections.

Social media

Asked how the party had been meeting, taking decisions and communicating to its members, Mr Ofori said the party had been relying on social media platforms where constituency and other groups had been formed for discussions.

He said crucial meetings were also held via Zoom for decisions to be taken.

He said the party also developed power point presentations and audio-visuals and sent to all members in different languages for easy understanding.

Mr Ofori said the COVID-19 pandemic had made the party to adopt technology to work and do a lot of things without necessarily meeting face to face.

Background

Prior to the ban on social gatherings due to COVID-19, the party had set April 4 for its national convention to elect national officers.

The day was also to have been used to elect the presidential candidate for the 2020 elections.
