The New Patriotic Party has promised to streamline the integration processes of foreign-trained doctors in order to ease the difficulty foreign doctors face in joining the health sector.
At the Party’s manifesto launch today, Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that the NPP plans on engaging the Ghana Medical and Dental Council to fulfill this promise should their mandate be renewed come December 7.
“We are also going to work with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council to streamline the admission processes for foreign-trained doctors,” he said.
According to Vice-President, Mahamudu Bawumia, the inspiration of the NPP is based on the struggle and frustration foreign-trained doctors face in gaining employment in the local health sector.
“The discussion with a lot of foreign-trained doctors speaks to a lot of frustration that they have in joining the normal medical core. Especially some of our brothers and sisters who have trained in Cuba, when they come in we are going to discuss with the Ghana medical council to streamline those processes to enhance access,” he added
Addressing the concern of limited access to medical education, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that their administration, led by His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo will ensure that more medical facilities are built to ease the burden on the few ones available.
“We will also help by expanding access to medical schools in Ghana by building additional facilities and augment its human resource base.”
