All you need to know about Naana Opoku-Agyemang as John Mahama’s running mate for 2020 polls

A member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, also Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi in the Volta region, has confirmed the party will file processes to contest the declared results in the Presidential election of December 7, 2020, as well as a selection of parliamentary results.

He said it is not true that the party has abandoned interest in the presidential results as held by some, and will be petitioning the courts between Tuesday and Wednesday, given that Monday is a holiday.

Mr. Dafeamekpor was contributing to discussions on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, indicating that the way to the courts has now been made clear after the Electoral Commission (EC) gazetted the election results.

Asked if the NDC would take the lead in making overtures to the New Patriotic Party (NDC) for a conciliatory patch up and work together in parliament as pointed out by President Akufo-Addo after he was declared winner of the polls by the EC.

“…The Ghanaian people, through the results, have made it loud and clear that the two parties, the NPP and NDC, must work together, especially in Parliament, for the good of the country…”, the President had said on December 9.

The call, according to Dafeamekpor, is a good call, however, the NDC is the victim and complainant in the outcome of the results and therefore any conciliatory advances should come from the NPP. He however does not see that happening given the tone of the language of a number of leaders in the NPP.

Former President and presidential candidate of the NDC, John Mahama has long rejected the results as “fraudulent”, saying he was unwilling to accept it, describing it also as “fictionalised results of a flawed election,”

He told a press conference the party will take “all legitimate steps to reverse this tragedy of justice.”
