Management of Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School has given final year students of the school the green light to go home for the mid-semester break.
The decision goes against the directive given by the Ghana Education Service to ensure that all boarding students across the country are kept on campus during the break as part of measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Speaking at a press engagement, a board member of the school, Francis Amoako Asante stated that after the disturbances on Monday night, the school authorities have been instructed to allow the students who want to go home to do so.
“After the incidents which occurred on campus, there was communication to the effect that students who want to go home be allowed to do so. The majority of the students who are in that group have left as of Tuesday morning”.
Boarding students are expected back on campus on Sunday, July 25, and day students on July 26.
The disturbances were occasioned by the Ghana Education Service’s directive to schools not to allow students to go home for the break due to a sharp rise in cases of COVID-19 across the country.
