Director of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Dr. Bella Bello who doubles as special advisor the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapaha Ussif believes that, hosting the 2023 All African Games will uplift the international outlook of University of Ghana.
Dr. Bello’s comments comes after Government’s decision adopt the University of Ghana Stadium to host some disciplines; and some Halls to serve as the game village for the 13th edition for the multi-sports event.
The University of Ghana is expected to host the games specifically the athletics and football events while some halls will serve as game village.
“There is something that contributes to the ranking and that is international outlook and one of the best ways that you can have an international outlook is through sports.”
“If we have these facilities at the University now, world class, state-of-the-art, international standardized sporting facilities with international competition etc, clearly it would help in our academic ranking.”Dr. Bello said on Sports Express show.
Dr. Bello also believes that the University of Ghana will now rub shoulders with other universities in the world in terms of sports infrastructure.
“Finally 20 years after the dream of having a stadium on campus is going to be fulfilled.
“We are going to have extra warm up gym, which means we have literally internationally standardized athletics field, football field then we have a state-of-the-art rugby field..”
“Beyond that we believe it will trickle down to the themselves who would be participating, it would be a motivation.”
“If these things really happen as they are supposed to and I believe they are going to rub shoulders with any University in the whole world vis a vis sporting facilities in and educational institution and they can promote sports development for the nation as a whole.”
