A student from the Adeiso Senior High School, Thomas Amoaning, is expected to receive a government scholarship to pursue his tertiary education, after scoring A1 in all eight subjects in the 2020 WASSCE.
The student, who dreams to read Economics at the University of Ghana, read General Arts at the high school.
His ability to attend senior high school through government’s flagship program, Free SHS, was shared in a video that has gone viral on social media.
The day student narrated how he walked from Asuaba to Adeiso, a distance of about 6-kilometres on a daily basis to attend school.
The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat in a press statement issued on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 indicated that “H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has taken notice of a social media video reporting of the excellent results of Thomas Amoaning who lives in Asuaba near Adeiso and attended Adeiso SHS.”
It said as a normal practice and taking into consideration the socio-geographical background of the student, President Akufo-Addo has expressly directed the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to grant a full scholarship award to the student for his tertiary studies.
According to the Secretariat, a contact has been established with the student and his parents.
It added that on Friday, November 27, 2020, the Scholarship Secretariat will meet the family to discuss their needs in detail.
The Registrar of Scholarship, Mr Agyemang also revealed that a major announcement from the Secretariat would be made on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
