The Ghana Institute of Journalism Students Representative Council (GIJ-SRC) has announced that it will dedicate its Week celebration for the 2018/2019 academic year to the promotion of Tourism through communication.
In a statement signed by Naa Adoley Moffatt, who is the General Secretary of the Council, “the week’s activities will serve as conduit to contribute to raising awareness among students and stakeholders in the tourism industry to use communication as a tool to promote domestic endowments of this country.”
The Council further added that their decision to promote Tourism through Communication is part of their efforts to furthering the government’s “beyond aid agenda”.
“Indeed our nation is endowed with a natural wealth of tourist sites; our green cultures, natural
artifact and historical relics are in abundance.
What this success story needs is the oxygen of publicity and patronage to yield good results in all
sectors. We believe making use of the array of technology available to talk about our country in
the positive light would highlight the tourism prospects we have envisioned as a country over the
years” – part of the statement reads.
GIJ-SRC’s 2019 Week Celebration, which is scheduled for 11th – 17th March 2019 will be held under the theme “Promoting Tourism through Communication”.
Activities planned to earmark the week long celebration include an Interhall quiz, an exhibition on made-in-Ghana goods, Highlife Karaoke, BBQ Night, an artiste night among others.
Meanwhile, the SRC is calling on prospective sponsors and partners to “support a patriotic cause”.
