Minister for Gender, Child and Social Protection, Mad. Cynthia Morrison, has issued that orphanage homes which have not undergone due process in registering their organization must report to the Gender ministry to register.
She says that unregistered orphanage homes that fail to comply by the directive risk being closed down.
She also added that about 100 National Service Personnel will be employed to facilitate and monitor the activities of various orphanage homes as well as the social welfare department across the country.
“We wrote to National Service to give us about 100 people. We are going to train them and then we will let them go round and monitor what was is going on in our various homes,” she said
Cynthia Morrison further stressed on the fact that there were no lapses on part of the social welfare in executing their duties.
“When social welfare workers go to work they do not sleep there with them and these things can happen even at their blind side. It also happens at homes where parents maltreat their children and this is human nature but if you have a good heart you won’t do that,” Cynthia Morrison stated.
The Gender Minster has also assured that her outfit will begin a monitoring system to ensure that inhumane acts meted out on children are curtailed in the country.
She urged that “we should treat children as human beings and we shouldn’t treat them anyhow because we are taking care of them in the homes, that is very wrong”
