The Food and Drugs Authority has bemoaned the wide spread of illegal sales and advertisement of unacceptable drugs as a result of the irresponsibility of some media houses.
Public relations officer of the FDA, James Lartey accused some media houses that over the years they have aided the movement and the promotion of illegal drug sellers by allowing them to promote business on their media platforms.
“The challenge is that this aspect of the law is always being flouted and it looks like this problem is mainly with the media. To explain this, I don’t think anybody can walk into any station and advertise their products on media platforms without the approval of the media station”, he stressed
Speaking on our news analysis program, behind the headlines, Mr. Lartey admonished media stations to desist from advertising drugs which have no backing from the Food and Drugs Authority.
“Our advice to the media is that anytime anybody brings a product to be advertised, it must be confirmed that the product has being approved and issued with a letter by the Food and Drug Authority.
He further emphasized that the law states clearly that no product can be advertised unless approved by FDA.
