The John Dumelo campaign team in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has registered their displeasure over recent acts of violence meted out to members and supporters of the party at some registration centers in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The team, which has accused the sitting Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan for organizing the abuse of NDC members in the constituency, alleged that police personnel at registration centers looked on while party members were assaulted.
Campaign spokesperson for the team, Benjamin Madugu Avornyotse indicated that it is the core duty of the MP to promote peace and serenity in the constituency amidst the ongoing complication of the new electoral roll.
“The Member of Parliament who is supposed to make sure there is peace in the constituency seems unconcerned and still associate herself with this people. This only points to one thing, either she is instructing these individuals to carry out this attacks or she deliberately pretending that she is not aware of what is happening.”
A statement issued on Tuesday July 14, 2020 noted that the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has “once again become a scene of violence and assaults,” hence the MP must take actions to end the brutalities ongoing in the constituency.
According to the team, “her campaign that is bound to fail must not be seen to tacitly approve and profit from the violence being perpetrated on the innocent constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon in the on-going registration exercise.”
Mr Madugu cautioned that since the security personnel have failed to do the needful, they will resort to alternative relieves to ensure that their party members are protected from ‘thuggery and hooliganism’.
”We would have no other option than to protect ourselves and our agents on the ground because our personal security and safety have been left in our hands, because despite our complaints the police aren’t doing anything about it,” he warned.
