Defeated National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate, John Dumelo, has petitioned the Electoral Commission for a recount of ballots in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
He says that the election in the constituency was fraught with irregularities, hence the need to recount votes.
He alleges that in some instances, his figures were swapped with that of the candidate on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Lydia Alhassan.
“I humbly write to your office seeking for a recount of all ballot boxes across the constituency. This is due to several irregularities that have been identified in some of the polling centres. One of such irregularities was the swapping of my figures and that of the NPP candidate’s figures at polling centres,” his letter to the District Electoral Officer of the constituency reads.
John Dumelo, who had prior to the election, expressed hope of flipping the seat for his party, lost to the incumbent MP, Lydia Alhassan.
Madam Lydia Alhassan polled 39,851 votes against John Dumelo’s 37,778.
