The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has urged the government to consider reimposing some restrictions to deal with the rising cases of Covid-19.
In a statement, Noguchi said that the Delta variant of the virus was fast spreading in communities, hence the need to take urgent steps to address the issue.
They disclosed that some persons who were vaccinated were also contracting this variant of the virus.
In a statement, they urged the government to take a second look at the state of adherence to COVID-19 preventive protocols.
They have warned of a “more serious outbreak to deal with as a nation” if immediate actions are not taken.
It says that the development is even more serious as over 80% of the country’s population has not been vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association has reacted to calls for a lockdown in parts of the country.
General Secretary of the Association, Dr. Justice Yankson, says that such a decision can be taken after careful thought.
“There is always a place in this whole management approach for lockdown, but the most important thing is, what do you do when you declare a lockdown? There are certain scientific principles that should go with the lockdown,” he noted.
