Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has slashed the salaries of its contract staff by 50%
The salary cut takes effect May 1.
Contract staff who are providing essential services will, however, not experience a salary cut.
It says that this will be the case until the operation of the university becomes normal following the changes the coronavirus outbreak has forced it to make.
KNUST, like other tertiary institutions in the country, was forced to close down until further notice in other to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The closure of schools in the country was directed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“Management has decided that until the situation normalises following the closure of the University due to the coronavirus pandemic, all contract staff, except those providing essential services should be remunerated 50% of their monthly salaries,” a notice signed by the Deputy Registrar (HRD) reads.
