One of the aspects of the student life that cannot be ignored is student politics and for the majority of the student populace who may seem unconcerned about happenings within that field, they are of the view that, their sole purpose on the university of Ghana campus is to study.
For the enterprising University politician, issues pertaining to how every administration is performing is paramount to him and would go every depth to know exactly what is happening.
The very first meeting of the S.R.C general Assembly was held on Friday and lasted over 12 hours, through the night to the next morning.
The meeting began with so much joy for many who got their preferred candidate emerging winners for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, a core requirement for a complete legislative arm of the general assembly.
Your guess is as good as mine, Ewura Adams Karim emerged Speaker and Vannessa Kumbor the lady who prefers to be called ‘First Lady’ became his deputy.
I’m sure who might have heard rumors of some bad blood breeding between the Sly administration and Ewura Adams.
Some reliable sources have it that, he was once appointed to head the Programs and Projects Committee but was relieved of the position later due to some undisclosed misunderstandings.
I am pretty sure you are eager to know how the work relationship was like at the sitting with Karim as Speaker. Your guess is as good as mine, the whole perception of rivalry became obvious when discussions of Ad-Hoc Committees and budgetary allocation discussions begun on the floor of G.A.
The Honourable President together with most members of his administration were of the view that, the President be given preferential treatment in the house. Since he is the first gentleman in U.G, they believed the president had to be given a chance to speak anytime he shot his hands into the air to make a submission, an opinion the Rt. Hon doesn’t subscribe to.
Can you imagine what happened after the Speaker had ignored the President for a while? He blared out! Yes the President blared out.
And just when a representative of the house called upon the President to apologize to the Leadership of the General Assembly, precisely, the Speaker. The president together with his bandwagon of cronies descended angrily on the poor representative, creating chaos and confusion within the house and had it not been for the intervention of some honorable members in the house, fits would have exchanged and the marbled floor of General assembly would have been stained with blood.
I was so shocked at the behavior of the S.R.C president and his entourage. With such gross display of intolerance, impatience and uncontrolled egoism, I have kept on asking myself, Does our nation have a future?
Are we being educated or we are just accepting to be schooled?
Do we as individuals understand the roles and positions we aspire to and prepare adequately to occupy them?
Are we really learning to conduct ourselves properly or we are just pleased with looking fanciful in expensive and shinny apparels?
Necessity is laid on all of us.
