Akuafo hall defeated last year’s finalist Legon Hall to lift the prestigious University of Ghana soccer league trophy for the second season running.
Akuafo began the game on the front foot and would take control of the game till the final Whistle. The farmers setup in a 4-2-3-1 formation to counter Legon Halls 4-3-3.
Last year’s champions dominated the game with good pressing blocks, build ups and well organized vertical progression as well as great inter-positional play.
The Legon Hall team had no answers to the pace, power and intensity the farmers began the game with. The farmers were rewarded with a goal a few minutes to half time after Joshua Abayateye connected a set piece from Junior.
Legon Hall came into the second half chasing the game but their hopes were dashed as man of the match Abayateye netted his second of day with a wonderful volley strike after substitute Vlademal used his lightening pace to take on the Legon hall full back before sending in a wonderful cross to register an assist Legon hall missed a penalty but pulled one back to setup an exciting finale to the game.
Akuafo’s goalkeeper, Badasu Bright made what was the most important save of the game in additional time after Legon Hall’s captain Ofosu Kwakye was put through on goal.
The farmers netted fifteen times and conceded six goals in 8 games averaging 1.8 goals per game Akuafo Hall remains the only unbeaten team since last season and have equaled Sarbah’s record of two successive league titles.
