The Ghana Hostels Limited has sounded a strong caution to students who have interest in applying for residence to beware of persons who claim to be their staff.
According to the outfit, some people have created platforms they are using to extort money from students, promising to offer them rooms but end up deceiving them.
In an interview on Radio Univers, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Hostels Limited, Dr. Kwame Kusi cautioned students seeking to gain accommodation in the Pentagon hostels that his outfit does not charge consultation fees and never operates in such manner.
He noted that it is a worrying development which has victimized many students because “Ghana Hostels Limited has not authorized any such communications in any form or shape.”
“I must confess that as at yesterday, we have 1,250 students who have fallen victim to this and it is so worrying that some miscreants could take this action and that is very bad, to try to bring the name of Ghana Hostels into disrepute and we will not allow that,” he lamented.
He assured that the necessary measures are being put in place to bring the perpetrators to book.
“In fact we are doing everything possible to get to the root of this and bring that person or group of persons to the law to take action because this is contrary to our rules, it is unofficial and therefore we are only advising students to stay away,” he said.
Dr. Kusi hinted that application portals will be opened officially on their approved websites and through the media.
“So all we can say is students are advised that Ghana Hostels Limited will very soon open the portal for the 2020/21 academic year through the media and other authenticated websites, so they should be very careful, it is not our style of operation, we do not collect money for consultancy” he added.
