Business Development Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has pledged an amount of GHC 50,000 into the Ghana Institute of Journalism’s endowment fund.
The gesture was to encourage other alumni of the Institute to assist the school financially with its vision of building an international Digital Media Hub and establishing a global standard program that matches the best programs in journalism and communication education worldwide.
Commending the school management for the launch of the endowment fund, Dr. Mohammed Awal also pledged to assist his alma mater in its quest to raise GHC 100m before October this year.
“…I want to commend the Rector and his faculty for the launch of this endowment fund…I will personally contribute 50k ghana cedis and i will support the school raise money for this endowment fund.
Dr. Mohammed Awal stressed on the importance of the school’s alumni contribution to the fund.
In his view, the contribution will go a long way in transforming the school in a world class one.
It is important that great alumni who are here [contribute to the fund]. I’m sure they can contribute $10,000 each [and] that will be about 50,000 ceids each within the nine months [so that] by October we can transform the school.
He further called on corporate organizations to support the Institute in its expansion project.
“Corporate Ghana, when you support GIJ, you are not only supporting students, you’re supporting to build your business. So corporate Ghana, I urge you to support the endowment fund so come October, we should have 110m cedis.”
Dr. Mohammed Awal made these comments whiles delivering the key note address at the launch of the Institute’s 60th anniversary at the forecourt of the school in Osu, Accra today.
