The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has selected William Dowokpor to represent the party in the upcoming by-election for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra.
William Dowokpor is the same candidate who represented the party in the 2012 and 2016 parliamentary elections and lost to the deceased Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a Facebook post announcing their candidate for the January by-election, the party argued that it would be in the interest of the constituency if Mr. Dowokpor is elected to represent them in parliament.
The party also expressed optimism in defying all popular expectations and called on the constituents to set their differences aside by voting for change.
“In 2019, the PPP hopes to defy all popular expectations. The people of Ayawaso West Wuogon should set aside their differences by voting for change in January’s by-election. Giving the mandate to Mr William Dowokpor to represent them in Parliament would be the best decision for the constituency.” they said.
With this, William Dowokpor joins the National Democratic Congress’ Delali Kwasi Brempong, Liberal Party of Ghana’s Clement Boadi and one of the widows of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, Madam Lydia S. Alhassan, who is running on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party, in the race for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.
The seat became vacant following the sudden death of Mr Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, the Member of Parliament for the area on November 21.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has set Thursday, January 10 to Saturday, January 12, 2019, to receive nominations for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election.
Aspirants are to pay a filing fee of ¢10,000.
A statement signed and issued in December, 2018 by the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa said, the nominations will be received at the Ayawaso District Office of the Commission between the hours of 9:00 am to 12 noon and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day.
