Parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party in the forth coming Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Mr. William Dowokpor has called on Civil Society Organizations to organize for a debate for the candidates.
According to him, the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency is one of the biggest constituencies in the Greater Accra Region and as such, it will be prudent for Civil Society Organizations to organize a debate for the parliamentary candidates for them to engage in an intellectual battle.
Speaking on Radio Univers’ Akan Show “Obiara Nkabi”, the two-time failed parliamentary candidate expressed disappointment in the seemingly show of non-interest in the forth coming by-election by Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s)
“I’m looking for a debate. Sadly, the NCCE, IEA and CDD are not organizing one. I’m Wondering why such a constituency is going to have an election and even the state institution, NCCE, which is responsible for increasing political participation among citizens and must bring the parliamentary candidates together to let the constituents know about their agenda and how they’re going to execute their promises are quiet.”
Mr. William Doworkpor further expressed optimism in getting the nod to represent the people of the Ayawaso West Wuogon in Parliament despite previous failed attempts.
The local government analyst explained that most of the constituents he has engaged in conversations with have shared with him how dissatisfied they are in the various leaders they have elected to represent them over the years.
He stressed that the constituents were determined to elect someone with a different party affiliation to bring development to them.
“The people are fed up with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The people who voted for NPP or NDC have a general feeling that they need to vote for a different party this time around. Most of the places that I went to, the people identified me as the man that has contested for the parliamentary seat on several occasions. Some have even composed a song that says that, “This is my time”. he said.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant following the death of the MP, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko on November 21, 2018.
In the forth coming Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, William Dowokpor will be contesting with Liberal Party of Ghana’s Clement Boadi, Delali Kwasi Brempong of the National Democratic Congress and one of the widows of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, Madam Lydia S. Alhassan who is running on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
