A second-degree student of the University of Ghana and an electorate of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Davison Addo has been assaulted by two masked SWAT officials from the Ghana Police Service at the Akuafo Annex B polling station.
The victim explained that, he was unable to cast his vote because of his inability to arrive at the polling center before the stipulated time for voting closure, however he decided to witness the counting of ballot papers at the centers.
According to the victim, he decided to video the counting of the ballot papers.
It was then he noticed that the Presiding Officer had jumped some figures in the counting. He said,
“I did not vote because I couldn’t get to the polling center before 5pm, then voting had ended. So, I decided to witness and video the counting of ballot papers.it was then I noticed the Presiding Officer mentioned 49 and then skipped to 60 and to 82.”
Davison Addo who reported the case to Radio Univers stated he swiftly notified the Presiding Officer of the error and made available a footage of the video he had recorded earlier. He added that he was picked up and attacked by the two masked security persons who made it clear that it was illegal for him to record the electoral process.
“After the Presiding Officer had viewed the video, some two police guys picked me up and began to beat me because I had recorded the counting of the ballot papers. Luckily for me I was saved by another police officer who took me to the legon police station”
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election had been marred with violence with 6 persons severely injured and a shoot out at the La Bawaleshie Presby Polling Station earlier in the day.
