National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary candidate in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo, has promised to provide life-changing opportunities for constituents living in slums if elected to represent them in Parliament.
He says that there are many people in the constituency who were struggling to make a living, thus, the need to prioritize them and work on providing them with opportunities that would help them progress also in life.
In a digital conversation with constituents on Thursday, the actor cum politician debunked the assertion that the constituency only more elite residents.
“I am there for the people in the slums first. I’m there for everybody but I’m there for the people in the slums and so the truth of the matter is that when I win the seat all those living in the slums would have equal opportunity to be able to progress in life. Sometimes I go around I do door to door I see people sleeping in kiosk I see people you know a family sleeping and he does a little kiosk and I’m sad and so my conversations with the people I tell them that when I become Member of Parliament, your life is going to change,” he assured
John Dumelo also disclosed that he has started the disbursement of loans to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the constituency.
According to him, one of the beneficiaries of the loan has been able to expand her business because of the loan.
“Last week, a certain lady asked for an oven and we gave it to her. She’s now been able to expand her business. She’s now been able to bake more bread and life is getting better for her,” he said
John Dumelo’s toughest opponent yet in the Parliamentary race is the incumbent MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who won the seat on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Whilst the NPP is yet to hold primaries in the constituency, there are strong indications that Lydia Alhassan will seek a reelection.
