Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, has stated that all security personnel deployed for the December 7 elections will treat all voting centres as flashpoints.
He made this known at a media interaction organized by the National Election Response Group (NERG) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP).
The program was to get the EC to update the media on its preparations ahead of Monday’s national exercise.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Bossman indicated that such a mentality will help the security agencies deal with any unseen threat.
“With this election, the police is treating every polling station as a flashpoint because when you do that it makes you very prepared”
Also speaking at the event, Chairperson of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi Asare cautioned the media to be decorous in their reportage as it had the potency to destabilize the country.
“For media houses may I also appeal, let us do the best we can to investigate every news item that comes to us before we put it out so that we minimize the sensational news that sometimes creates agitation”.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with UniversNews, Regional Coordinator for Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at WANEP, Mr. Vincent Azumah indicated that WANEP in collaboration with NERG will launch an election situation room on Sunday, December 6, 2020, to monitor the conflict situation that may arise before, during and after the election to take adequate steps to prevent them.
He explained that personnel will be stationed at various polling centers across the country that will feed the situation room with information on happenings at the polling stations.
Mr. Azumah added that this will be done in collaboration with the Electoral Commission.
