The International Center for Youth Counseling and Global Development (ICYCGD) has donated over three hundred (300) face shields to the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates of the Achimota Basic School.
According to the Center, the gesture forms part of its resolved efforts to ensure that the candidates adhere to all laid down COVID-19 safety etiquettes in the respective examination centers.
Speaking to UniversNews, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the group, Mrs. Harriet Boateng highlighted that one of the reasons for the riots that characterized the just ended WASSCE was due to poor ventilation as “students could not have a lot of air to breathe in that is oxygen because of the nose mask and so we thought of distributing the face shields.”
She further hinted that her outfit has also planned to donate more COVID-19 relief items to schools across the country, hence needs the support of well-meaning individuals, groups and, corporate bodies and organizations.
“The President has announced that students are going back to school and there is the directive that just the form 2 students will be going back to school, so we are going to focus on them…that is next month October to distribute the face shields to them and so we need sponsors” she entreated.
In order to educate JHS students on the proper wearing of face masks and shields, Mrs. Boateng indicated that a COVID-19 sensitization campaign will be rolled out to achieve that purpose.
“There have been certain predictions that there is going to be a second wave of the COVID, so as part of our outreach in junior high schools, we are actually talking about the fact that they have to make the wearing of the PPEs very seriously” she emphasized.
