The Northern Regional capital, Tamale, is set to host the first Independence Day anniversary celebration outside the Nation’s capital region, Greater Accra Region.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo first hinted of the change in the venue in his speech during the celebration of the 62nd parade celebration at Accra.
Ahead of the celebration, a team of government officials and a joint force of officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have been dispatch to Tamale to ensure the program comes off smoothly.
The team, led by the Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, consists of Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Ramous Barker, Warrant Officer II Fredrick Suuka from the Drill and Duty School in Teshie in the Greater Accra Region and joined by the RSM of the Kamina Barracks Senior Warrant Officer Ebeneku Godfred.
The delegation is to inspect the Aliu Mahama Sport Stadium; the designated venue for the 63rd Independence Parade.
The Independence Day Celebration for close to a decade now have been held in the Greater Accra Regional Capital at the Black Star Square in Accra, however plans are been made by the government to make the venue for the celebration rotational.
