Urban Gospel singer Emmanuel Essuman-Mensah, known in showbiz as Kingzkid has disclosed that Urban Gospel Artistes in Ghana are very united in their quest to push the genre forward and to make Ghana, ‘officially the most Gospel consuming country in the world’.
Unity among musicians in Ghana has been a major issue of concern to many music lovers and patrons. Popularly known as ‘beef’, most Ghanaian artistes usually find themselves throwing jabs at each other and sometimes to the point of insulting others.
There have been numerous examples including Samini and Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and M.anifest, Stonebwoy and Jupiter and recently, Shatta Wale and Yaa Pono.
However, this is not the case with Urban Gospel artistes in Ghana, according to Kingzkid. He disclosed this whiles speaking exclusively to Radio Univers’ John Acquaful.
“I think we’re very united as far as obedience to the calling is concerned because the Bible said something about us all being a part of one body. I think everybody has a role to play and we’re playing it in our different ways. And so in that area I think we’re very united”, he said.
As a recent genre to appear on the music scene in Ghana, Urban Gospel is thriving and most artistes engaged in that genre are making headlines in the music industry. The genre which is widely accepted in Nigeria and South Africa is slowly gaining grounds in Ghana and unity among the numerous artistes could be key in making it stay in the country.
Kingzkid is set to host his annual concert dubbed ‘Amplified’ at the KICC Dominion Center, Spintex Road, on the 5th August, 2017.
