A car headed for the African Union (Pent) Hostel caught fire on Friday evening after it collided with another car in a near fatal accident on the stretch of road between the Jones Quartey Building (JQB) and KAB lecture buildings.
The incident which occurred between the hours of 10pm and 11pm, involved an ash Suzuki Forenza which was headed for Pent and a black Ford Mustang which is reported to have been approaching from the opposite direction on top speed.
Though the exact cause of the accident is not known, eyewitnesses say all occupants of the Suzuki Forenza, numbering four (4), having seen the looming danger and in a bid to save their lives, jumped out of the vehicle just before it was crashed into by the Mustang car.
An eyewitness who narrated the sequence of events to Univers News said the Suzuki Forenza caught fire almost immediately after the crash and would have been raged down by flames but for the timely intervention of the Legon Fire Service.
Investigation are however being carried out to ascertain the real cause of the accident. Student drivers and other road users are thus advised to take precaution for their safety while on campus.
