The Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu has disclosed that the UG stadium will be completed in a few month’s time.
He said the delay was due to the fact that the government of Ghana has not provided the university with all the funds it needs for completion of the stadium.
“We are hoping that the government will be forthcoming to give us the remaining funds to complete the stadium.”
Speaking to Univers Sports, Dr. Bello says the project was on a halt until they acquire the funds needed to continue the construction of the stadium. He further added that hopefully the third phase of the project will be completed within the next few months.
“So we are on halt and I believe that in the next few months the stadium will be completed.” – he said.
The Construction of the multi-million dollar stadium for the University of Ghana was started in 2004 by CONSAR Limited under the administration of former President John Agyekum Kuffuor but work on the facility has stalled after the Ghana Education Trust Fund GETFund decided not to finance the project for over a decade now.
But with Ghana securing the rights to host 2023 All African Games, measures are been put in place to get the stadium completed so as to serve as a venue for the games.
