President of the Campus Association of Student with Special Needs on the University of Ghana campuses, Mr. Gilbert Agyare Boateng, has decried the disability unfriendly nature of some facilities on the University of Ghana Campus.
“Some lecture halls especially JQB where most of our people have their lectures always demand that someone has to be carried from the ground floor up to the top.”
The University campus which has a fair share of its population being students with special needs has seen slow progress in the upgrading of existing facilities into disability spaces.
“I normally say that you ought to have the emptional fortude to stand some of the these situations because the psychological trauma alone will impede you from becoming comfortable in the lecture hall,” Mr. Boateng stressed.
Mr. Gilbert Agayre Boateng said that Students with special needs on the University of Ghana Campus will enjoy a great deal of independence should the campus be totally made disability friendly.
He, however, encouraged people with special needs not to despair in the realization of their aspiration.
